Officer Hiring Process

Applicants interested in employment with the City of Weatherford Police Department must first participate in a battery of written exams followed by a series of physical agility exams, which includes number of push-ups in one minute, number of sit-ups in one minute and a timed one and a half (1.5) mile run. Applicants do not need to pre-register for the exam and there is no need to fill out any paperwork prior to the exam. Applications and personal history statements will be issued on the date of the exam. Applicants must bring a picture ID on the date of the exam.

Necessary Paperwork
Applicants will complete the basic City of Weatherford Application for Employment, a Personal History Statement (background packet) and any other forms required by Weatherford Human Resources.

An applicant must fully complete and return all forms by the listed deadline and provide the requested copies of required documentation before the application will be considered.

Disqualifying Factors
Incomplete packets or failure to return requested documentation prevent a full and complete background to be conducted.

Applicants who fail to provide the necessary information to complete the background portion of the process will be disqualified from further consideration in the process.

Interview Board
During the testing process, the top candidates will appear before an interview board. The board will consist of members of the Police Department and possibly other members from the City of Weatherford.

Candidates will be asked questions about their background, skills and training, and should be prepared to answer some situational questions structured around the Weatherford Police Department Core Values and Mission Statement.

Applicants must pass this portion of the process before proceeding. Applicants will then be the subject of a thorough background investigation.

What's Next
The overall top candidates will then be interviewed by the Chief of Police or his designee. After this interview, the Chief of Police will determine whether to extend a conditional offer of employment to the applicant or pass over the candidate at that time.

Conditional Offer of Employment
Entry level officer candidates who are given a "conditional offer of employment" must pass a pre-employment substance abuse testing exam, psychological examination and "post-offer" physical examination.

Some Things to Know
A candidate must pass all examinations to be considered for employment, this in accordance with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education and the City of Weatherford Personnel Policy.

The Chief of Police reserves the right to offer or rescind any offer of employment.
